The Authority Chart Remade After His Statement

After Song Juhyeok's statement ended, Gray Thread's authority chart was rebuilt from scratch. The old method, where the field team gathered material, the analyst interpreted it, and one person wrote the conclusion, could no longer stand. Seojin's ability output had pushed the first hypothesis forward, and Minwoo's speed had turned that hypothesis into an actionable line of suspicion. The correction was made public, but the damage the wrong approach had caused still remained on the chart.

Yeoreum opened the meeting by laying out three cards. Access rights, refusal rights, review rights.

"Starting with this case, accessing original material requires two confirmers. One is the person who brought in the material, and one is an outside reviewer who did not do the interpretation."

Minwoo said, "Material with a short retention window can't wait that long."

"In that case, we secure it provisionally first, and only allow viewing after double review."

Seojin saw the access restriction mark placed next to her own name. When handling ability usage records together with the raw audio files, she could no longer interpret them alone, and the output had to be stored separately from the evidence list. It wasn't unlimited restoration, it was access with supervision conditions attached.

"And if I don't agree?" Song Juhyeok asked.

"You can refuse if the material concerns you directly. But if the refusal causes us to miss the retention deadline, we record that cost too."

Song Juhyeok checked the cards one by one. He drew a line between his right to keep his own information from being disclosed and a right to lock up the company's material unconditionally.

"Put in a clause saying material I didn't provide won't be interpreted under my name."

Seojin added the request to the meeting record. Minwoo started to object, but Seojin spoke first.

"This condition is what lets Song Juhyeok keep providing the logistics records."

"If the refusal right gets too broad, the investigation stalls."

"That's why we write down the reason for refusal and the expiration time along with it."

Yeoreum broke the scope of access rights into smaller pieces. Gray Thread could secure the refrigeration zone temperature and power records directly, but the delivery driver's identity and any material presumed to concern a protected person had to go through the protection agency's confirmation first. The operations room test phone would be copied by an outside reviewer first, and Gray Thread could only see the hash and the creation time. Song Juhyeok could decide whether to provide material without ever viewing the original himself.

"This gives the culprit time to destroy material," Minwoo said.

"That's why the preservation request goes out immediately, and only the content review is delayed," Seojin answered.

The team actually tested the new conditions. The platform notified them it would delete the original relay logs for the two 04:03 tokens in 24 hours. Song Juhyeok could access the company server, but said he wouldn't download it himself. He said if Gray Thread designated an independent reviewer, he would grant that person alone the authority to request preservation.

Minwoo sent the request form to Seojin and the outside reviewer at the same time. The request went out at 10:12:08, and the reply came at 10:12:44. Only after both confirmations were complete was the platform's original relay log preserved. The log revealed that the completion token and the cancellation token had not come from the same delivery device, the server that received the completion token had issued a separate relay request.

The original source of the cancellation token was still blank. But before figuring out who pressed the button, they confirmed which route the second token had come from. Song Juhyeok's name was not in that relay route.

Seojin filed the ability output, "empty house," in a separate log. She wrote down the entire process of how that word had entered the case chart's line of suspicion and then dropped out of it. Minwoo agreed to the rule that accessing the output record required an outside reviewer's signature.

"If you hide your own ability, the team has less material to judge with," Minwoo said.

"That's why I don't hide it, and don't use it as evidence."

"I suppose I'll have to keep explaining that difference."

"If it isn't explained, the same misjudgment happens again."

Hearing that, Minwoo widened the counter-hypothesis column in his own report. Seojin, too, agreed that whenever she revised Minwoo's field judgment after the fact, she would record the reason for the revision along with her own access rights. Trust in their relationship wasn't being built by saying they trusted each other, it was being institutionalized by agreeing on where each other's authority stopped.

In the afternoon, Song Juhyeok handed the company server's logistics contract records over to the protection agency. He didn't say Adil's name, and the protection agency didn't ask for it. Instead, they extracted only the delivery times, the power fluctuations of the refrigeration equipment, and the equipment identifiers issued to the workers. This material couldn't confirm the identity of the protected person, but it could confirm who used which equipment and when.

Even after seeing this independent record, Seojin didn't use the phrase that she trusted Song Juhyeok. She split it into two tables, the parts where Song Juhyeok's statement matched the logistics material, and the parts that still didn't match. The rear door of the vehicle opening, the temperature rise in the refrigeration zone, the delivery device access, these partially matched. The person who generated the photo on the operations room test phone and the person who relayed the cancellation token were still blank.

Minwoo said, "Even if it's not the core of the crime, those two blanks are the next step."

"Yes. But we won't fill in the blanks with the protected person's name."

Song Juhyeok read that sentence and nodded for the first time. He said that once the protection procedure that would let Adil give her own statement was complete, he would let her decide for herself whether to make one. Gray Thread decided to wait for that choice, and until then, moved the case forward using only the temperature, power, and token records.

At six in the evening, Seojin signed the confirmation of the access rights changes. Double review for ability output and raw audio files, recorded reasons and expiration times for material concerning a party directly, every correction preserved alongside the original text. The conditions looked like they were lowering her standing, but they were actually a device for rebuilding investigative legitimacy in a way that didn't concentrate judgment in one person.

Yeoreum wrote in the final meeting record.

"The first hypothesis was discarded by disproof. The access, refusal, and review rights of a person harmed by misjudgment are now reflected in investigative procedure. Physical, power, and token material that can be preserved without the protected person's identity takes priority."

Song Juhyeok read the last line of the record and added one sentence.

"Anyone who controls material in the name of protection also has that control's cost recorded."

Seojin didn't erase that sentence. Protection wasn't completed by good intentions alone, and a lie didn't disappear just because it had a reason. They had gotten a partial answer about the person, but the core of the case still remained in the blanks of the relay server and the operations room test phone.

At ten at night, a new preservation log arrived from the platform. The cancellation token had been reissued through a different approval route after the completion token's network connection dropped. The first identifier in the relay route wasn't the refrigerated logistics warehouse, it was an outside delivery management service.

Seojin didn't close the screen. She still couldn't tell whether it belonged to the same lineage as the blue triangle receipt, or was simply a reused service. Without using Yun Junho's name, she registered the possibility of a reused customer number and the service account's authority chart as the next question.

Gray Thread was the same team as before, but it no longer had the same authority. Seojin waited for the next original with limited access, and Song Juhyeok preserved the logistics material while holding his right to refuse. Minwoo kept his field authority, but couldn't reach a conclusion without an independent reviewer's confirmation.

04:03 still sat at the top of the new case chart. Below it, the external service identifier for the second token had been added. A short retention deadline was starting all over again.

The next morning, the outside delivery management service asked again about the scope of the preservation request. Opening the full account record could expose other delivery workers' personal information along with it. Seojin requested only the twenty minutes around 04:03 and the approval route for that specific token. Minwoo wanted a wider scope, but if the material was something Song Juhyeok could refuse, they had to settle on the minimum necessary scope first.

"Narrow the scope and we might miss the relayer."

"Widen it and we drag someone unrelated into the case."

Yeoreum recorded both opinions and had the independent reviewer set the minimum scope and the expansion conditions together. The expansion conditions were triggered if the completion token and the cancellation token turned out to be linked through the same account, or if the refrigeration zone's power fluctuation overlapped with a specific worker identifier. Instead of an unlimited investigation, they set an observable threshold.

Song Juhyeok approved the procedure, but refused direct access to his own company account. He said he would leave the original to the outside reviewer and only take the hash and the approval route at Gray Thread. Minwoo was uncomfortable with it but accepted the condition. It was the moment the refusal right stopped being a wall that halted the investigation and became a line that separated who could see what.

In the ability record from chapter 22, Seojin confirmed the word "empty house" and the time it took for the ordinary word she'd lost to come back. She didn't hide the cost, she entered it into the team's fixed record. For the next use of her ability, she added a condition: check the possibility of repeating the same word category first, and if there was material she could confirm without using her ability, choose that first.

Minwoo said, "If you keep not using your ability, the field gets its answers late."

"But then we can confirm whose words the answer belongs to."

"Then you and I will have to check each other's blanks."

Seojin nodded. For the first time, Minwoo had called her by name instead of her title, and that shift quietly stayed on in the relationship signal column of the meeting record.

At eleven in the morning, the limited scope preservation confirmation arrived from the outside service. The cancellation token had been issued not from the warehouse's operations room, but from an outside approval route. Two service accounts were connected to that route, and the actual worker's name still hadn't been confirmed. No evidence emerged that the photo generated on the operations room test phone and the issuing of the cancellation token were the actions of the same person.

Seojin split the case chart into two branches. The access route of the device that made the photo, and the approval route of the service that reissued the token. She decided not to bundle the two into a single crime, and instead to confirm when they connected to the same person or the same organization.

Song Juhyeok received a copy of that chart. Only after confirming Adil's name wasn't on it did he say he would keep providing his material. Seojin didn't treat that choice as a reward for cooperation. It was simply the result of him keeping to rights and conditions that had already been set.
